The Pender Harbour & District Health Centre Society is a not-for-profit organization that provides governance and oversight to the Pender Harbour Health Centre and its operations. The PHHC Board of Directors employs the Executive Director of the Health Centre and provide governance oversight and support through various committees. The Health Centre could not operate without the commitment, dedication and knowledge of our volunteer Directors. Fundamentally the PHHC Board of Directors have the following roles and responsibilities:

  • To lead the development of the organization’s mission and vision.
  • To ensure the financial health of the organization.
  • To ensure the organization has sufficient and appropriate human resources.
  • To ensure effective organizational planning.
  • To represent the organization to the public.
  • To establish and maintain its own Board process.
  • To provide risk management.

The Board ensures the above through regular monthly Board Meetings, focused Board Committees and strategic planning sessions.

PHHC Board Directors are elected at the PHHC AGM and normally serve for a term of three years. Directors may be elected for up to three consecutive terms. Occasional vacancies may be filled by Board appointment between AGMs. Such individuals are interim Directors and stand for formal election at the next AGM.

Directors should anticipate putting in 8-10 hours per month on overall Board activities. This may include community involvement, fundraising involvement, committee involvement, board meeting preparation and board meetings. Board meetings are currently held on the last Tuesday of each month at the Health Centre boardroom.
